For the last two decades, hundreds of beautiful hand-painted boxes carrying the most precious of materials have been sent to us by parents, patients, and doctors, looking for hope. Within them were contained tissue samples, mostly from sick kids, in search of answers that could help guide their treatments. Through the years, this labor of love has been carried out free of charge to patients and families alike. Due to the rising costs in healthcare, however, we are now in need of obtaining financial support to maintain these services, and to hopefully expand them, so we can reach even more patients in need.
Effective medical treatments, particularly that of cancer, heavily depend on having a precise pathology diagnosis. While medical knowledge and cutting-edge technologies keep evolving at an accelerated pace in high-income countries (HIC), large communities from low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) have very limited access to these medical advancements due to their high costs. Having an inappropriate diagnosis can result in unnecessary or inadequate treatments, which can be harmful to patients, their families, and entire communities at large. This reality is all the more tragic when it affects our children, our "little vessels of hope". At Little Boxes of Hope, we strive to provide free access to state-of-the-art pathology diagnostics to these patients, so they can receive the best treatment possible.
